... has Japan's best archaeological site at Sannai Maryuama, discovered in the 1990's when they were planning to build a baseball stadium.


It's a huge site, occupied from about 5000 to 3500 years ago. They're still working on it!
And next door is the Aomori Art Museum, a modern building with modern but very lovely paintings, the entrance hung with four huge Chagall backdrops for a ballet.
The rest all Japanese and mostly local.
Excellent! What a day of culture!!
Heading south tomorrow to a couple of small towns with, we hope, interesting stuff.
