The start of our six-week tour of Italy was three days in Milan. Explored the amazing Duomo (cathedral) including its roof terraces in glorious sunshine. Every minaret has a statue on top!
Walked the streets and rode on the trams then found a café/bar just around the corner from us for a superb "aperitivo" - beer and a mound of food for 6 euros each. Decided we like Milan!
Next day around the Sforza castle/fort and its museums, the rooms themselves as interesting as the exhibits. Big lunch, more trams and the Galleria d'Arte Moderna where 'modern' meant 19th century. Went back for another aperitivo, of course.
Thursday was torrential rain all morning so we studied 20th century art. Then another great lunch in a restaurant which offered "balanced" dishes - 50% veg, 25% protein and 25% carbohydrate (ish). Finished in a fascinating museum of a house fixed in time which had been owned by a family who liked all things Renaissance.
It was brighter later!
Off to Lake Maggiore tomorrow.
